No, I'm not totally cuckoo, but yes, I do have a topless table surrounded by four seatless chairs in my dining area. However, unlike the seatless chair in my bedroom, I fully plan on restoring this set so it can serve its intended purpose.
Although I knew it would be more work than buying something fully finished, I chose to buy this shell of a table because it fit the criteria of what I was looking for: a delicate and feminine frame, with possibly a glass or white marble top, that wouldn't take up a lot of space visually. The only thing I'm not crazy about is the carriage underneath. I have yet to determine if it's possible to remove it while maintaining the structure of the table.
I like the chairs enough, but they aren't as critical for me, because I like the look of a mismatched set, and for the most part, this table will serve as a desk, in which case, I will just keep one chair around it, and tuck the others into a closet. I may or may not keep them, depending on what I can come up with for cushions.
In any case, I have to make this project a priority because I often find myself thinking, "Maybe I'll order something that can pass as home-cooking and invite some friends over for dinner," and then I remember that we'd have to sit cross-legged around my coffee table or squeeze around the dinette set in my kitchen, which obviously does not fit in with the type of sophisticated dinner party I envision having ;)
Forever,
Amber
