Love Is In The Air in Toronto's Distillery District

Beautiful floral arrangements

Last night I had the pleasure of attending a truly lovely wedding reception to celebrate the marriage of my friends Meaghan and Jordan.  Held in one of the most unique and beautiful spots in Toronto, the Distillery District, the reception (along with the wedding) was absolutely perfect!  The decor was gorgeous, the food was delicious and the crowd was the perfect mix of family and friends.  Not to mention Meaghan looked stunning, mingling in her Vera Wang wedding gown.

The reception started at 6:00pm.  We arrived just early enough to have some time to browse the brick-lined streets (which I have to say are all-the-more charming in flats) and grab a delicious iced coffee from a cafe, housed in one of the heritage buildings of the former Gooderham & Worts Distillery.  Fast Fact:  The Distillery District is the largest collection of Victorian Industrial Architecture in North America.

After about an hour or so of browsing, we headed to Archeo, a restaurant that would rival even the coolest open-concept loft apartment.  The space is the ultimate example of old meets new with its exposed brick walls, concrete floors, high ceilings and tables and bars constructed from reclaimed timber.

We had drinks and hors d'oeuvres on the outdoor patio and then moved inside for speeches, dinner and dancing.  The speeches were thoughtful and eloquent.  The dancing, not only welcome, but necessary, in order to burn off my delicious arugula salad with dried prosciutto, lovely salmon with roasted potatoes and baby beans, and to-die-for crème brûlée.

It was a great day and night spent with the family and friends of two people who are clearly in love.  Besides the chatting, eating and dancing, one my favourite moments came when I walked out onto the cobble-stone patio to see Jordan and Meaghan (in her very elegant dress) laid back in a couple of chairs, smoking freshly-rolled cigars ike a couple of Cuban gangsters!
